We started early in the morning and embarked our train at Surrey
Hills Station. Blue skies and cool still day.
It took 40 minutes to arrive into Lilydale Station. There were
not many people on the train.
Lilydale Warburton Rail Trail starts behind the station by the creek. There were not many hints on how to get
to the start of the trail from the train station. A gradual gradient upwards
and passed the BMX track to our left. The slow ride uphill was challenging for
Ella Mae. However, it was a relaxing ride.
We arrived at Carriage Café in
Seville, our destination, just in time for an early lunch. Surprisingly, we found
a compartment inside the carriage. Unfortunately, the seats were very old and
had lost a tremendous amount of support. They provided cushions but it was not
the most comfortable seating height to have lunch. The train carriage also was
screaming for a deep clean as it ranked. It was not as foul as the train
restaurant, Easey’s in Collingwood though.
My seafood chowder was very good but the others’ meals were basic
in presentation and taste for the price.
We rode a little further and turned back towards Lilydale.
This is a beautiful part of the world with beautiful
landscape, fresh air and horses. We stopped by The Trail Cafe for hot chocolate and coffee. Another treat for the children was the playground at Mount Evelyn.
The quiet train ride home was in dispersed with macadamia
nuts and bhaji crunch.
It was a wonderful
car free day out. We managed 40km beautifully.
