We visited the Sky Mirror Gallery. I liked the work of art displayed there especially Nilmini de Silva's work. https://www.skymirror.com.au/shop-11 They were very organic and balanced. Rohan advised us to visit Lake Tyrell again between August to September for a calm cool weather - fly-less perhaps, and not too many tourists.
It was a drizzly sort of day. A reflective mood. As we move further away from Lake Mungo, my heart yearned to be there. In the mallee. Being solitary where the quietness is deafening.
We drove to Maldon. It was a pretty little town. The main drag have preserved most of its buildings. The feeling of the old world where time stood still. It was quite sad to see most of the shops had for sale sign on them. It was a wet and cold day and there were not many people around at lunchtime. We narrowed down two places to visit, the railway station and the dredge.
About 15 minutes away from Maldon is Castlemaine. It was definitely a stark difference between these two towns. We had lunch at Johnny's Bakery. The pies were sensational - chunky filling and crusty pastry.
It took us a little while to find him, but we did at The Mill. Richard Baxter. https://richardbaxterartist.com/ He looked almost exactly the same as he did many years ago. It wonderful to see him so relaxed and happy in his studio. The studio smelt of paint. There were brushes of different sizes sitting inside glass jars on a very well loved timber table in the center. The industrial space was a wonderful space to display his artwork. We had a good catch up.
The Mill was an interesting reuse of an industrial area. The owner did well in preserving the industrial soul of the place. The bins and signs were handmade and appeared tectonic.
We swung by my parents' place on the way home. We made a simple "camping" dinner for ourselves. We laughed about the footage I took of Thomas saying coconut candy "yea zhi tong". This was a gem. Great to see my parents laugh.
It was good to be home again...or would it have been better to be stuck" in Lake Mungo?
