Flinders Ranges :: Day 10 and 11 :: Adelaide to Melbourne

DAY 10

Today, instead of driving back to Melbourne or frantically search for a non standard replacement hitch, we decided stay another day and gather our thoughts. We decided to return the next day without our bike rack and bikes as we preferred our car to be assessed first. We decided to use a removalist to transfer the bikes and bike racks across instead.

It was quite a chilled out morning. The children spent time with their nanna. Kim washed our bikes. Ella Mae painted a card for Wayne's 50th. It was of a tree in a beautiful landscape. She used blowing method for the sun and sponging method for the sky.

We drove to Kim’s dad farm to spend some with him. The children love it here. They love the open space, and the animals. They had horses, dogs, chickens and a cat. He cooked us lunch of homemade beef patty with bread. I had fried and steamed eggs on bread. It was delicious. It was wonderful to catch up with Kim's dad and Linda.

We celebrated Wayne’s birthday at Bangkok Boulevard Restaurant in Tea Tree Plaza. The food and service there was very good.

Afterwards, we spent more time with Pa and Mi as well as Uncle William and Aunty Angela and Uncle Kevin. I was glad we spent another day in Adelaide. I loved spending time with them.

DAY 11

During our journey home, it felt strange without the bike rack and bikes. Every cyclists we drove past, I felt pangs of jealousy. Every time we stumbled on an undulation, my heart was in my mouth.
We had dinner at Golden Age Hotel in Beaufort. We had lasagna and roast. It was very satisfying and heartwarming meal.
We were happy.

POST HOLIDAY

We had our car checked. There was a crack in the towbar hitch. It would cost either $50 to remove it or $900 to remove and reinstall the whole back structure and bumper.
The courier to return our bikes from Adelaide to Melbourne was either $400 without insurance or $900 with insurance.

Ultimately, Kim trained to Murray Bridge and was picked up by his dad. He then drove to his mum's and stayed overnight. The next day, he drove the bike racks and bikes to his dad's. Together, they drove to Melbourne. All the while, they stopped in towns where his dad needed to do his errands. Kim met his great aunt for the first time.
