Day 5 :: Lake Mungo Lakebed Trail

The evening stars were out of this world. The twinkles appeared individually and en masse. Like sages of the past, we pieced together stars to make pictures and stories. I woke up early on my own to watch the sunrise. It was incredibly peacefully quiet. The birds and bugs were not awake either. It was just me and the slowly rising rays of the sun. Below, I have doubled the speed of the video. Note the birds started to sing at the end. After breakfast, Kim found and spoke to Park Ranger Grumps* about riding on the Lakebed Trail. It was closed due to lack of maintenance; and there were many potholes. (*Apparently he was one of the grumpiest ranger Kim had ever met.). Kim and I discussed it; and decided we would go ahead as we were no speed demons and were experienced enough to know when to turn back. Day 6 :: Lake Mungo :: Lakeside Walk and Lake Mungo Loop

All was quiet at the Shearer's Quarters. The air was as still as a photograph. Ella Mae and I stood arm in arm; and watched the sunrise together. We felt each other's warmth; and were connected by this beautiful serene view. The blues, mauves, purples, and pinks in the sky were like layered cake. For a moment, I wondered if it was real. We were in awe of the six swallows that sat still on the gutters of the Woolshed. Twittering, twitching, tidying for a little while until they were all still; and they basked their feathers in the morning sun rays. Ella Mae declared she would reflect back to this day with fondness. I felt the same. After breakfast, we went for a stroll on Lakeside Walk. The red sand dune was dotted with Cypress Pines - Mallee Cypress Pine (rough cone) and White Cypress Pine (smooth cone). There were many kangaroo "beds" underneath these trees. There were many birdlife here too. As we could hear them but not see them; it was as if the trees and bushes...

Day 8 :: Sea Lake - Maldon - Castlemaine

We visited the Sky Mirror Gallery. I liked the work of art displayed there especially Nilmini de Silva's work. https://www.skymirror.com.au/shop-11 They were very organic and balanced. Rohan advised us to visit Lake Tyrell again between August to September for a calm cool weather - fly-less perhaps, and not too many tourists. It was a drizzly sort of day. A reflective mood. As we move further away from Lake Mungo, my heart yearned to be there. In the mallee. Being solitary where the quietness is deafening. We drove to Maldon. It was a pretty little town. The main drag have preserved most of its buildings. The feeling of the old world where time stood still. It was quite sad to see most of the shops had for sale sign on them. It was a wet and cold day and there were not many people around at lunchtime. We narrowed down two places to visit, the railway station and the dredge.
