Tasmania :: Day 11 Forest Walks Lodge :: Huonville to Deloraine

With a heavy heart, we reluctantly bid goodbye to Huon Bush Retreat. The children finally managed to feed the pademelons cucumber.

We stumbled on Summer Kitchen Bakery in Ranelagh. We had driven past this bakery quite a few times. It was closed for the Christmas break. What a find! The food here was amazingly. We loved the service too. They have put in lemon balm in the water and it was delicious and refreshing.

We drove through Central Plateau. There were settlements by the Big Lake for recreation fishermen. At one point, a white morph grey goshawk carried a snake over above our car as we drove.
The children slept.

Our car screeched to a halt when I saw Pine Lake walk. It was so beautiful that there were butterflies in my stomach. My heart was in my throat. It was as if I was falling in love again. Wild flowers in full bloom were surrounding the lake. Like wise sages bent over while sharing their wisdom, the ancient pine doted over the petite delicate wild flowers.

Forest Walks Lodge felt like staying at someone’s house. It was not as carefree as how we had been. There wasn’t a kitchen we could use. So, we had to pay for our lunch or dinner there if we wanted to eat onsite.

We had a quick dinner of leftovers and bread that we bought from the bakery earlier. As the day was cool, we decided to go for a short walk. There were no specific markers that we followed as the ribbons were guiding us disappeared. Thomas assured us that we were on the right track as we were also following faded orange short timber stakes.

We later discovered that they have sent us to an art trail. My favourite piece was one whereby trees were wrapped with colourful ribbons. These ribbons were slowing disintegrating and nature was morphing back to its original form slowly. A part of the forest became quite magical where a flock of kookaburras that were calling to each other for a long period of time.
