Three Playgrounds

The magnolias were peeping out from their buds. The weeping cherries' pink blood were seeping out of their fine limbs. The air had a scent of Spring.

A family bicycle ride to Belmore along Union Road. We have had a break from family cycling and today was a fine day to commence again.

Union Road was not overly busy. The fumes were quite obvious on the junction of Union and Whitehorse Roads though. Ella Mae wrinkled her nose and cough. She commented that it smelt a but. Two parts of Union Road were deemed unsafe for pedestrians and family cyclists like us. They were corner of Carlyle Crescent and Belmore Road roundabout.

St Bridget's Rise was a challenge. We had to push our bikes at the end. More practice is required.

Lunch was a delight (again!) at Cafe Amity in Belmore. We had baked eggs and fish and chips. Their chips here are divine. We drank flat white and chai latte.

When we finally joined Koonung Trail, it was not overly busy.

The playground next to Boxhill Miniature Steam Railway was a hit with the children. They like to pretend that they are trains picking up passengers and they zoom all over the playground at imagined stations. The facilities include swings, basket swing, climbing frames, slides, pseudo train stop, carparking, picnic tables, toilets, water point, bins, and bike trail.

We rode on to Bushy Park Reserve. At the corner of my eye, we saw a brown sign that marked Australia's first electric tram. Thomas knew straight away and announced, "The Boxhill and Doncaster Tramway!"

It was a pleasant ride and we stumbled on Wimmerra Street Playground next to Greenlink Nursery in Boxhill North. There were quite a few elements which we liked: different textures and colours, compact but with lots of different types of play, and hidden sculptures. The facilities include swings, basket swing, climbing frame with bell to the highest point, hidden sculptures, nature play, speed humps for little scooters, water point, picnic tables, timber xylophone, bike trail.

As we rode up towards Boxhill, the children insisted they were hungry and wanted buns! We stopped and indulged them on their request. Happy bellies mean happy children. We rode on and joined the Gardiners Creek Trail.

There were quite a lot of hills. I got off my bicycle a few times and steered the bicycle with the right hand and pushed Ella Mae with my left hand while jogging. It was a great workout.

We rode to Artists Park. The children loves the climbing frames here as well as the nature play. The undulation of the play areas is interesting for the body as well as mind. The facilities include swings, basket swing, sculptures, nature play, textures on the ground, water point, picnic tables, small basketball court, and bike trail.

We rode home slowly as the sun was beginning to hide. Our lights flickered and bounced on reflective signs. It was a beautiful day out.
