Melbourne :: Victoria Park, Kew Loop

The weather has started to change. The gusty winds were stripping the sun-kissed yellow and orange leaves off their branches. As the leaves fell on to the ground, our bicycle wheels played percussion music with them. The children squealed in delight like little piglets wallowing in mud.

We stopped at the playground across from Our Lady of Counsel Primary School on Whitehorse Road. We love this playground as it has much to offer. It is very shady and has barbeque facilities. On the plus side, it has a newly installed public toilet.

At Adeney Milkbar Cafe, the children couldn't resist Noisette's pain au chocolat and warm soy milk.

I had a delicious smashed avocado.

Kim had a bacon roll. The roll was a little on the dry side.

My chai latte was one of the better ones I have had. It had good fragrance and creamy. The strong flat white was good. But we think the barista needs to improve on the coffee art. Even the waiter was embarrassed by what he was serving.

The children love the huge green slide at Victoria Park, Kew. It is very shady nearby as we watch them race up the tanbark slope to get to the stairs and slide down. The slide was relatively quiet and the background noise came from the football/cricket ground nearby. I doubt very much the lawn bowlers were as rowdy.

We also stopped at a playground between Normanby Road and Lady Basseys Drive. This is a good playground with swings, basket swing, rope climbs, centrifuge self spinner, monkey bars, and slide. Nearby, there are trees that you can climb.

Ella Mae did well. Her aim was to ride on her own for 10km. The last record was 7km. Today, she surpassed her target by more than 5km. We were so proud of her. She was rewarded with bubble bath and chocolate as post-ride treats.

I taught Thomas how to do a hook turn on his bike. It was a little stressful as we were on the road. But I think it is important for him to learn this skill early on. Practice makes perfect.
