Last week, a mum from school asked for a recommendation for a bicycle for her 2 year old son. My advice to her was that he should start with a balance bike first. But which one she asked.
I thought about our Ridgeback Scoot. Our children have both outgrown the Ridgeback Scoot and it was sitting in our garage. It had not been ridden for a while. So I thought I should offer to sell it to her. She was very keen because she knows that we are a bicycle loving family. On top of that, I think she thought we probably have done our research on which reasonably priced balanced bike would be the best for our children.
She was very excited about the prospect of buying our Scoot. I pitched in the prospect of selling the Scoot to my family. It seemed strange, but it was as it we are selling our friend whom have looked after us for so long. I tried to be reasonable and said that it would be a shame for the Scoot to just sit in the garage. The boy whom would be the new owner was at the perfect age. He would make full use of it - from the smaller seat post and growing to the larger one. Just like how Thomas and Ella Mae grew with the Scoot.
Finally a price was set and the sale was agreed. The weekend before Scoot was pickup, the children were riding around on the driveway as an act of farewell.
As it was Thomas' 3rd birthday present, the money went into his account. He was overwhelmed with emotions. He was sad that the Scoot left our home, but was pleased that the money went back to him. Kim and I thought it was fair.
