Melbourne :: Surrey Hills to Ashburton Library

It was a beautiful day for a bike ride. We took our time as we weaved down the Anniversary Trial path towards Ashburton Library.

Thomas tried out his bicycle pannier bags. These are a pair of Ortlieb Sport-Roller Classic. They were from Santa. They were bright red to match with his Frog bicycle in Union Jack. Inside, he had his and Ella Mae's lunchboxes.

The library has plenty of bicycle parks right at the front of the building. There are windows that overlook these parks and therefore it felt as if the bicycles will be pretty safe. The children did some reading, colouring in as well as played with a giant Connect 4.

Then the show started. It was Cybergirl Circus. At first, I thought Cybergirl appeared and sounded quite creepy. The children were not sure at first but she was quite entertaining. I think that this show was probably more suited for children in Prep to Year 1 as the children are to teach Cybergirl how to read. Nevertheless, the children came back wanting to make a trick tomato sauce bottle. In addition, Ella Mae was very happy to be selected to participate in the show. She was pleased to be presented with a medal for her efforts.

The children borrowed three books each. This was limited to three each as we had to ride them back. They were placed in Thomas' pannier bags. He seemed to be quite comfortable riding with them on his pannier rack and was not thrown off balance by them. At the moment, I still have to help him clip the panniers on and off the bicycle pannier rack. Next to the tennis club, a new path has been created to prevent pedestrians from clashing with the cyclists at the tennis club entrance. However, Thomas has to learn to ride on the new path.

The children had a short play at the enclosed playground before we left.

A highlight for the day was when the train passed by and driver honked twice. The children were delighted.
