As it was our first family bike ride for the year, we chose to take it slow. The weather has been too hot and humid lately. The thunderstorms were epic. Over 40 degrees in two consecutive days were too much to bear.
We were determined not to be deterred one day. We left the house without breakfast to save time. Just to make the ride run smoother, Ella Mae ate a banana to stave off her "hangry" moments.
As a special treat, Thomas rode on the tag-along attached to Kim's bike.
Our destination was The Unexpected Duck on George Street, Camberwell. We rode past this place numerous times and wanted to try it out. We found a place we would park our bikes.
We were the only customers the whole time we were there. It was a shame as the food was delicious. The presentation required attention but it was delicious. The children love the waiter/barista/chef, Mark. He is fond of chickens so that made it even more special for the children as they love chickens too. After we left, we wished the cafe was called The Unexpected Chicken instead. The cafe has games for the children to play with. Also, they have a library book exchange station.
After a hearty lunch, we rode aimlessly and found a lovely shady playground at by the Willison Tennis Club. It also has a basketball ring nearby. One could walk easily to the toilets at Frog Hollows Reserve. We also found a field, Willison Park, where we could fly our kites on.
We also found a new place we could cycle where the surface felt a bit off-road!
Ella Mae found a moment for stone therapy.
At the end of the trip, Ella Mae rode 4km on her own. There were some protests from her after a couple of kilometers as it was getting pretty hot.
But she was persevered and was awarded with a cool bubble bath with bath toys.
