Melbourne :: Anniversary Outer Circle Trail

On Christmas day, my sister and nephew joined us for a family bike ride.

As they normally do not ride, the best strategy would be the easiest route with minimal hills. This in itself was a challenging task as we live in Surrey Hills. Nevertheless, they gave it their best shot. At the end, they had sore hands from constantly braking as they went downhills and sore legs riding uphills.

We rode towards Warburton Road via Maling Road to join the Anniversary Outer Circle Trail. This time, we road mainly on the pavement. We took it slow and it was perfect to ride on Maling Road on Christmas day as the shops and cafes were closed and we could ride on the pavement quite easily.

Another beautiful day for a bike ride. There were not many people out and about. We could smell lots of barbeques in the air though. The scent made us quite hungry.

I showed them my favourite part of the ride, going under the bridges of Mont Albert and Barnesbury Roads.

At the end, there was a playground where the children stretched their legs. This will be a good park for family gatherings because:
- undercover barbeque
- undercover table and benches
- good playground
- open area for ball games
- outdoor amphitheater
- carpark across the road
- bicycle parking
- new public toilet

By the time we returned home, we were famished!
