Before storage, we made sure that the camping equipment are clean and dry. For example, our tents and tent footprints were subjected to rain. We packed them in a waterproof bag rather than their normal bags while we transported them home. We cleaned off any dirt and bird droppings. We hung them out on the line to dry as soon as possible. For a couple of days, they were hung in the house to further air dry.
The sleeping bags were unzipped and hung to air for a few days as well.
Kitchen items are free from oil and crumbs.
The areas we chose to store them are:
- dry
- minimal dust
- dark (not in the sunlight)
- accessible
Tent:
Folded and stored as per"How do we fold our tent - Kathmandu Lansan Ultralight?" post.
Sleeping bag:
The Kathmandu Pathfinder water repellent drifill down sleeping bag v2 comes with a storage bag. I loosely put the sleeping bag in there. Then, the bag is placed in the cupboard.
With the other three sleeping bags, Kathmandu Orb (2 of) and Mountain Design Travelite sleeping bags, I close the velcro first so that they do not damage the sleeping bag material. Then, they are hung on timber hangers. The normal plastic or wire ones are not robust enough to hold the weight. The bags are then draped with Daiso coat dust bags. Then the sleeping bag sacks are hung with the matching bags for easy identification.
Tent footprint:
Bunnings tarpaulin sheets are folded. Then, placed under the tent dust bags in the cupboard.
Self-inflating mats:
We store the Kathmandu Ascent self-inflating short mat hike 38mm and Kathmandu Ascent self-inflating regular mat hike 38mm
with the valves open. They placed against a wall in the cupboard on their edge horizontally with the valve facing up.This is to ensure the valves are not accidentally damaged. Below illustrates their orientation at the back of the cupboard.
Self inflating pillow:
We store the Kathmandu self-inflating pillow with the valve open. It placed on the shelf in the cupboard.
Large table:
Kathmandu Maison aluminum table is placed in its bag and stored in the cupboard
Stools:
Kathmandu Roamer tri-stools are placed in their bags and stored in the cupboard
Small table:
Kathmandu Roamer MDF table is stored under our bed as I use this everyday
Kitchen:
All equipment are placed in a cardboard box in the cupboard. The cardboard box is a temporary storage solution. Once we are clear about what we need as we get more experience under our belt, we will purchase a clear plastic box.
